There is so much mixed messaging out on social media and the internet right now, and so much of it seems to be focused on moms.
Hustle but don’t burn out.
Never settle but find a way to be “enough”.
Don’t quit until you’re proud but find work/life balance.
Be present but stay connected at all times.
No wonder moms are struggling to feel “enough” these days.
The pressure on us is like nothing the world has ever seen before. To do more, be more, achieve more all while keeping tiny humans alive, capturing it in perfect images to post on social media, and making it all look flawless.
I wish I could tell you there is a “one size fits all” solution to how moms can manage through all of this pressure while making sure their needs are being met and loving themselves along the way, but it’s just not that simple.
We’re living in a world that the older generations of moms hardly recognize anymore. The way we parent, manage relationships, and work doesn’t even look remotely familiar to them. It feels like we’re having to chart this new territory of being a modern-day mom all on our own.
I was talking to my aunt the other day and she expressed her frustration with text messaging and how she wished people would just call more. I couldn’t help but smile as I thought about how limited my phone conversations are these days with friends. The default method of communication ranges between text messaging, social media DMs and comments. Calling someone out of the blue to “catch up” just feels odd in this multi-tasking, efficiency-filled world.
Here’s the thing – as moms in this modern day world, we’re all going through it together and learning along the way, and if there’s one single thing that could help us all out in a major way, it would be to love and support other moms in more of the “you do you” mentality and finding ways to give ourselves credit for our own strengths while simultaneously appreciating the mama next to you for hers without feeling threatened or “less than”.
Find what works for you to be your best, feel your best, and love your life – and be “enough”.
